Alchemy Takes the Next Step

We’ve always prided ourselves on staying on the culinary cutting edge. We came out of the gate with a world fusion cuisine. It was new to Gloucester and caused a wonderful stir. Times are changing and so are we. These days people are much more interested in food that is fresh, local and seasonal.

We prefer food that comes from small family farms that we can trust as opposed to anonymous agribusiness. We prefer vegetables that come from local farms. Supporting local farms means the vegetables are fresher because they do not have to travel hundreds of miles to arrive at our doorstep. The average grocery store item travels 1500 miles to get there.

Supporting local farms also means we keep our scenic farmlands. As we say in the local food movement, ”Eat your view or lose it.”

The menu is changing at Alchemy and will continue to change with the seasons. We are constantly on the lookout for more local food sources for every dish we serve. Our founder was involved in the founding of the Cape Ann Farmer’s Market and we’ll be getting our produce from the farmer’s market, the owner’s garden, and other local farms. We will be changing our menu often as the seasons change and new foods become available.

The name Alchemy comes from the medieval magical art of taking lead and turning it into gold. Our chef is trained in the magical art of “molecular gastronomy.” Molecular gastronomy creates new textures and flavors from standard ingredients using a deep knowledge of the science of food.

So there you have it – authentic “farm to table” food and cutting edge food science in one restaurant. That’s Alchemy!

Where Does Your Protein Come From?

Living in Gloucester, we are fortunate to have the best seafood right at our doorstep. Seafood doesn’t get any fresher than off the docks of America’s oldest seaport. It’s all wild caught and free from antibiotics and hormones.

Alchemy patrons tend to be more discriminating eaters than most restaurant customers. So we’ve gone on a hunt for the best meat we can find. We found family farms which certify that all their animals are raised:

Without antibiotics
Without growth hormones
Without any animal by products in their feed
With lots of room to run around
With full records from birth to table

These meats cost a bit more, but we know they are safer and tastier. We love being on the leading edge of providing you the best raised meat one could eat.

These meats are better than “100% Natural.” USDA guidelines for “100% All Natural” simply requires no artificial ingredients and minimal processing. The guidelines do not address the treatment of animals, type of feed, or use of antibiotics.

Cooking with Wood

Our wood-fired oven takes the edge off of the worst chills in the dead of winter. It also enables us to create a unique wood roasted flavor to our food, including our entire collection of original pizzas, as well as some of our dinner entrees and appetizers.

Our approach is wide open - you can come to us with a menu in hand or we can help you create a menu that is absolutely 'you' from scratch.
